Royal Caribbean’s Utopia Of The Seas For MJM Marine

MJM Marine is thrilled to announce its collaboration with Royal Caribbean on the opening of unparalleled, new experiences on its latest vacation, Utopia of the Seas. From the ship’s construction in Saint-Nazaire, France, to its official debut on July 19, 2024, in Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida, MJM Marine was a key partner in bringing the ultimate short getaway to life.
Building on a longstanding and successful partnership with Royal Caribbean, MJM Marine was once again entrusted as a key partner in developing a variety of new concepts as part of Utopia’s lineup of signature adventures and reimagined experiences across eight neighbourhoods. From the lively Pesky Parrot Caribbean tiki bar to the next-level Utopia Playscape for kids, to the Spare Tire, Royal Caribbean’s first poolside food truck; and the household name and coffee spot, Starbucks, there are numerous ways for everyone to make memories.
MJM Marine also collaborated on the build development and integration of Royal Railway – Utopia Station, a first-of-its-kind immersive dining experience. The multisensory adventure combines food, entertainment and technology to take vacationers on a unique journey by “train” to any place and time, such as the Wild West.
Throughout the collaboration, Royal Caribbean and MJM Marine engaged in a series of creative and design-oriented activities, including workshops at MJM’s Newry headquarters and visits for material sourcing and prototype assemblies. Additionally, an enlightening visit to the Down Railway Museum in Downpatrick provided the team the opportunity to research and experience the feel and authenticity of being in a period train carriage, as well as learning the rich heritage of shipbuilding and rail. This collaborative approach, from concept to delivery, was crucial in visualising and ultimately aligning design choices – down to the smallest detail – to create a truly immersive and memorable experience.
The two train cars for Royal Railway – Utopia Station were manufactured and assembled at MJM’s 100,000 sq ft facility in Newry, with teams coordinating installation methodologies and requirements with Utopia under construction at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France.
Commenting on this achievement, Gary Annett, CEO at MJM Marine, stated;
‘Collaborating with Royal Caribbean has seen our business take part in bringing many of the vacation industry’s most innovative, memorable experiences to life. Utopia of the Seas raised the bar, and together, our teams delivered in more ways than one.’
