This contract proved MJM’s standing in being able to contribute a cost-effective, modern design to a high quality finish in what has been regarded as one of Northern Ireland’s most successful urban regeneration projects, both economically and socially.

The enduring positive reaction to these “floating” platforms portrays MJM’s ability to design, construct and fit bespoke structures of all nature. The top platform offers a panoramic view of Belfast city extending into Belfast Lough and remains a popular attraction for locals and tourists alike.

The project posed several key challenges, including ensuring the materials to be used were fire and safety rated, durable and suitable for partial exposure (due to the open-planned nature of the centre). The project also involved successful liaising with several other contractors to ensure the plans would fit seamlessly with the overall schemes for Victoria Square.

The pods were completed in MJM’s previous manufacturing site in Rathfriland and fitted in 2007, and finally revealed to the public with Victoria square’s grand opening in 2008. They remain a fine example of the creative bespoke design capable by MJM.
