Meet the Team

We have a vast number of student who have completed placements at MJM Marine with many returning when they completed their studies to take up full time employment.

My placement year consisted of 12 months working within the contracts department. Throughout my placement year I was involved in the Celebrity Millennium/Summit projects from start to finish. I was on site on both jobs for the full duration of the projects. In the office I had multiple responsibilities. I assisted the contracts managers in doing take offs, ordering materials, organising containers, organising labour and planning the programme.

The highlight of my placement year here at MJM Marine was the two dry docks I was on in Singapore and the Bahamas. Whilst the dry docks are constantly challenging, the experience and knowledge you gain from it is unbelievable and massively assists you in your role.

I would recommend MJM Marine to UU students. For those looking a challenge and something different than the normal main stream construction industry, MJM is the perfect place to learn, grow and test your ability. The marine industry is a fast paced, professional, intense and exciting place to be involved in and I would strongly recommend anyone to get involved in it with MJM.

I would tell placements or graduates to grab the opportunity and enjoy it and get stuck into it. The marine industry is an exciting place to learn and grow your skills and it isn’t like your normal construction site. Take the challenge and enjoy every minute of it.

My placement year was set out in a way that I would complete 6 months in the Estimating department and 6 months in the QS department.

I was fortunate enough to be able to work on a job from tender stage through to the final account stage. I produced an estimate for a number of areas onboard the NCL Joy and when MJM Marine was awarded this job, I then began assisting the project QS team. The highlight of my placement was on site in Singapore working in the Norwegian Joy.

I would recommend MJM Marine to students for a number of reasons but primarily because MJM Marine isn’t a typical construction company.  Marine outfitting is very different to land-based fitout with very different challenges but you are learning all the time.

My advice to placement students looking at MJM Marine is go for it, get involved and try to absorb as much as you can.
