MJM Group has opened the cruise ship market to a number of local companies to provide material and subcontracting services including Wright Composites.
The company which is currently refitting the Azamara Pursuit at Harland & Wolff Ship Repair Yard in Belfast requires an extensive local supply chain to support its multimillion pound contracts across the globe. More than 100 Northern Ireland companies are currently supplying MJM Group on the refit of the Azamara Pursuit.
As part of a drive to strengthen its supply chain, it has welcomed potential suppliers onboard to see behind the scenes of a refit and understand what is required of suppliers to a marine contract.
Speaking during a supplier ‘Hard Hat Tour’ of the ship, Gary Annett, CEO of MJM Group commented: “For MJM Group, the refit of the Azamara Pursuit in Belfast reflects the confidence our customers, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and Azamara Club Cruises have in our capabilities to deliver a quality product which meets their six-star standards.
“Our success is dependent on a robust global supply chain which understands and delivers to our exacting standards. MJM Group has worked with a number of excellent Northern Ireland based suppliers for many years but with a project taking place in Belfast, we have a unique opportunity to engage with more local suppliers and brief them on potential future opportunities to work with us.”
Wright Composites, part of the Wright Group has become a new supplier to MJM Group with the design and manufacture of shower trays which have been installed in 309 cabins onboard the luxury liner.
John Elder, Production Manager from Wright Composites commented: “Wright Composites has been delighted to be part of the supply chain to MJM Group for installation onboard the Azamara Pursuit. This has been a unique and challenging project for us but through close co-operation with MJM Group’s design, manufacturing and purchasing teams, we have created a product which has met the exacting standards of the cruise company. We hope that this is the start of a long-term relationship with MJM Group and look forward to future opportunities with them.”
Gary Annett added, “Bringing the Azamara Pursuit to Belfast has been an historic milestone for MJM Group,” “We hope to see more cruise ships in Belfast for refits soon. We are keen to work with our local supply chain to ensure that they understand the unique nature of the marine industry and can benefit from potential opportunities that these ships will bring.”
